Alright guys, I am pretty sure I want to get a new (to me) car, and I am stuck between a 2005-2007ish C6 Corvette and a 2013-2014 Mustang GT. Help!

I am selling or trading in a 2007 BMW 335i, which has been really great, but I have an itch for a 'merican V8.

Here is my thought process breakdown:

The 335i

Kinja'd!!!

Pros : I have had this car for 2 years. It has been aweosme to drive. The engine pulls pretty hard, it makes turns like a boss, and the interior is top notch

Cons : Buuuuut the maintenance really is more expensive than anyone would desire. It's also getting up there in miles and I want to sell it while it has some residual value.

2013-2014 Mustang GT:

Kinja'd!!!

Pros: Sweet sweet American V8. It pulls at any point in the RPM range, and has great styling in my opinion. There are also great deals to be had on this model while the 2015 is getting all the attention. Should also come with factory warranty still in tact for a few years. Mostly selling in the $24-27k range.

Cons: Iiiiiit's not the 2015 which also looks great and seems to get excellent reviews. The interior definitely won't stack up to the BMW, but I have mostly come to terms with this. I have no idea what maintenance costs for Mustangs, but it has to be less than the 335i

C6 Corvette:

Kinja'd!!!

Pros: Its a Corvette. Also selling in the $24k - $27k, sometimes with z51 package.

Cons: Its not a C7. It definitely will not have a factory warranty, and also don't know what maintenance looks like.

So do any of you guys have the Mustang or C6? Any advice? Thoughts? I am test driving both this weekend, along side a camaro and challenger for good measure.

The vette for fun, the mustang if you need a little bit of practicality.

try the charger also. Just LS swap the BMW.

As much as I don't like mustangs from this time period, I would choose it over the corvette because if practicality

It will be my daily driver, and I drive a lot for work. I am a little worried about practicality, but I think the Corvette would be more fun. I will probably get a truck as a second car in a couple years for practicality. You know, because growing up.

If you appreciate bluetooth, go with the Mustang.

If you regularly use a trunk or back seat to hold your stuff, go with the Mustang.

The Mustang isn't great in stock form. The body likes to roll around a lot, but it's easily improved with aftermarket suspension stuff. You also sit up pretty high in it.

If you want a true sports car, go with the Corvette.

Also the 13-14 Mustangs will still have their factory warranty which is nice.

The C5 Z06 is definitely tempting! And around the same price range. I have to admit I think the C6 "hatchback" look is a little more attractive to me right now, but I have not seen the Z06 in person.

I wish i could keep the BMW as a project car, but I can only keep one car right now and can't afford to not get the trade in value.

Corvette. It is better dynamically in every way. Reliability, LS engines are a gold standard for a reason. A LOT less finicky than cars that can compete with it. Sure the interior is kind of meh. But the stang isn't the high mark everyone is trying to beat in this department, so corvette is better here too. When cruising the Vette gets great mileage.

I recently tried out a base C6 . It was an '08 so had the LS3 as opposed to LS2 on earlier cars, and had a Magnaflow exhaust. I actually rather liked it, but the suspension is almost too soft. It handles nice but it's definitely set up for comfort. The ride was much softer than my 135is. I'd try to find a Z51. Most listings online won't mention Z51 by name, so look for drilled brake rotors as they're the main visual clue that the car is a Z51.

Mustangs have never really done it for me.

I like the C5 Z06 but I like an open roof even more. Plus the C5 interior is just shite. The C6 is at least rental car-grade.

Bluetooth is actually pretty important to me, as I drive for work a lot. I was thinking I could do an aftermarket system in the 'vette if I got it.

Oh thanks. That is actually helpful feedback considering you have the 135 as well. Yea I think I would have to get a z51 package with the C6.

I used to not really care for the mustangs too much, but lately, with black wheels, they have caught my attention.

As for maintenance, from what I understand it's pretty cheap to have a car worked on at a Chevy dealer. But mods tend to be expensive. Like I went and looked up how much the Magnaflow exhaust on the car I tried would've cost, and it was $1500 for the axle-back, $2k for the cat-back.

I think the main thing is the number of seats since the trunk is reasonablish in the c6. Depends whether you drive friends or family about etc. If you're getting a second car though I'd definitely go for the vette.

No comment on the GT/C6 question because I think they're both great cars for the money, but good move cutting the 335i loose. They really start to crater around 100k.

I, personally would take the C6.

There's really no wrong answer here.

Practicality — do you need back seats? Having a back seat that nobody will ever want to crawl into and out of doesn't buy you much. And have you checked out the Corvette's hatch area? You can put a surprising amount of stuff back there.

Pay close attention to the tires — some Corvette owners choose crappy tires... because good tires in those sizes ain't cheap.

Also beware of non-Z51s wearing cross-drilled rotors. In the first few years of the C6, this was not an unusual "upgrade." The Z51 manual-transmission cars got shorter gears.

Normally I'm not one to harp on interior quality, like some VW/Audi douche who's all "but the plastics aren't as soft to the touch as my A4," but the C5 interior is pretty terrible.

But if you're set on one of the four you're test driving, I prefer the Challenger of the bunch. A used SRT8 could be in your price range.

corvette, easy. the back under the glass is enough room if you feel the mustang is enough practicality wise. way better performance, fuel mileage is likely better, interior is nicer. repairs shouldn't be crazy, as it is American and lots of them out there.

definitely go z51

I've wondered about this myself. What I can tell you is that I own an '07 Mustang GT and it's been the cheapest car ever. Nothing ever breaks and maintenance is so cheap.

The 06 is probably more fun because of the power and it's so low to the ground that it just feels cool to drive - maintenance won't be too much if you find a group that can help you. Corvette owners will help you out and they're everywhere.

C6 Vette. C5 Z06 would be worth considering as well, but I don't like the way they look and the C6 is much nicer inside.

I can't say from experience but I've heard maintenance on them isn't bad at all, and they get fantastic gas mileage. I've driven a C6 and a C5, good lord are they fun cars. I'm hoping to get a C5/C6/C7 in the next 2-3 years
